Useful Tools
Hey, mosaic people!
Are you a hammer or a spackling knife? Are you a tool used for destruction or repair?
In every situation, we can be used for tearing down or mending. As I navigate tough relationships or interactions, I’m faced with how I will respond. Though not always perfect, I desire to be a builder with my hammer—one who decorates and helps bring order instead of using it to destroy connection and healing. Sometimes a hammer can tear down walls to make space and reveal rooms that have been blocking the view, opening perspectives and hallways of healing. In that case, the hammer becomes a good thing—a helper, an aid.
A spackling knife and putty remind me of mending, a type of salve for the holes (wounds) in the walls of our house or heart.
Could spackling and a putty knife be used in a destructive way as well? Of course—by covering up things that need to be exposed to aid in the building. But most of the time, spackling and a putty knife represent assistance in filling in gaps and blemishes to create a smooth surface. They act as a prep and repairing agent to beautify a space, home, or heart.
The truth is, we’re always being used in the lives of the people around us. We have a choice in how we will be used. Will we destroy, or will we mend?
May we be menders and beautifiers.
Take great care,
Sabrina
